How to Add Metadata-Only References to Your Papers Library
To add a metadata-only reference to your Papers library, follow the steps below:
- Click the “+” button at the top right of the page.
- Next, select “Create Manual Entry…”
- Enter any relevant metadata.
- Click “Save” and the reference will be added to your Papers library.
In your library, these references will not have the paperclip icon associated with the entry, meaning there is no PDF available for the reference.
To add the full-text PDF to a reference, you can add the file to the attachments tab. If you know the DOI, add it to the metadata and click “Save”. Then select the reference in your library, right-click and choose “Locate PDF.” Papers will search for the full-text PDF and add it to the reference, as long as you have access through a subscription to the journal or it is open-access.
